Board approves refinancing bond

JONESBORO — The Westside Consolidated School District Board of Education has given the go-ahead for superintendent Dr. James Best to refinance the district's bonded debt Monday in a special meeting.

The refinancing would take advantage of lower interest rate for the school's current debt of more than $5.02 million.

“The Fed dropped three quarters of a point that gives us a opportunity to refinance and lower the interest rate on our debt," Best said.

The bond was issued June 1, 2003, for $5,718,176. The bond is redeemable, but not mature, on Aug. 1.

“The bond has been taken out by voters over the years to pay for original construction on the facilities," Best said.

Best said refinancing the bond would benefit the school in that it would refund money back to the school in May and would re-budget next year at a lower interest rate.

You just get that feeling sometimes that some people are better off and more productive in a job with less prestige. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Lou Holtz: never cut out to coach in the NFL; Coach K: happy at Duke: seems to have no serious NBA aspirations. If I were Mark Few I'd stay put. I find the idea that he "should" go to "a better job" or "go up to the next level" absurd. Often going up the ladder is a major step down -- Raymond Pert/Kellogg Bloggin.

DFO: Raymond Pert nailed it. In my small way, I made this decisions years ago when the opinion editor of the Tacoma News-Tribune called in search of a conservative bloviator. I asked him three questions: Did I have to wear a tie to work? Could I live within 5 minutes of the office? Is Tacoma as beautiful as Coeur d'Alene? Then, I made an observation: I have the best newspapering job in the state of Idaho.
