Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Wayne Really Get Boo'd? No New Girl For Scrappy!

The illseed movement rolls on down to Washington D.C., P.G. and all those good areas. I still don't know why D.C. hasn't had a major star yet. Back in the day, they had Blyss and some others. Check out some of the heat I've stumbled over.

Dan Gross: Quite frankly, Stephen A.'s fired

FIVE MONTHS after stripping him of his column, the Inqwaster on Friday fired Stephen A. Smith, citing job abandonment, we're told. Inqwaster editor Bill Marimow offered us no comment. In August, Marimow axed Smith's column and asked him to stay with the paper as a sports reporter. Instead, Smith, an ESPN NBA analyst, took an unpaid leave for several weeks, and was at one point scheduled to return but has repeatedly failed to do so, we're told.

Smith also hosts ESPN Radio out of New York along with former 610 WIP yakker Mike Missanelli. As we reported two months back, Smith has hired a team of lawyers to deal with the Inqwaster in some sort of legal situation. Smith's counsel did not return our calls or e-mails yesterday.

Bill Ross, a local representative of the Newspaper Guild of Greater Philadelphia Local 10, confirmed that the company fired Smith Friday and said that the union "will file a grievance and continue to defend him on our end as we also continue to cooperate with his private counsel." Efforts to reach Smith, who is now blogging at stephenablog.typepad.com, were unsuccessful yesterday.

Inland homeowners ponder refinance timing

Mortgage holders wanting to trade an unwieldy adjustable-rate mortgage for the certainty of a fixed rate are rushing to refinance in large numbers since the Federal Reserve's surprise rate cut earlier this week.

In the past two weeks, Bank of America has seen a strong and accelerating increase in refinance applications, said bank spokesman Terry Francisco. Last week, applications were up 193 percent from a year earlier. The week before, they were up 82 percent, he said.

The same is true for online brokers.

"We started getting a few calls last week, but on Tuesday (when the Federal Reserve Board announced its rate cuts) it was like a tidal wave," said Jeff Lazerson, president of Mortgage Grader, an online mortgage broker.

He said that most callers had adjustable mortgages scheduled to reset to a higher interest rate.

JOIN OUR 'DEAR JOHN PRESCOTT' CAMPAIGN

I fully support the campaign to ensure that financial support is received for Aylesbury Vale. The supposed 'Green Belt' area which surrounds the home counties is already at a large capacity and with the forthcoming influx of developments, I feel the nature as well as the infrastructure of the Aylesbury Vale region will be irreparably damaged. I understand that further housing within Britain has to be provided, but with other fast-paced cities such as Manchester on the increase in employment and popularity, housing negotiations could have been made elsewhere. Despite this argument, there is still time to alter the provisions that this county so desperately requires, if it is to with stand such a forseeable increase in population and demands on the local economy. Thank you very much for responding to government's plans for this area.
