Father Foley Cape Cod abuse case settled For $550,000

The Archdiocese of Hartford agreed this week to pay $550,000 to a man who accused the Rev. Stephen Foley of using his position as Hartford County fire chaplain to sodomize him when he was a 14-year-old parishioner in Windsor Locks. Foley, who has been accused of abuse by at least 11 men since 1993 and was removed from public ministry in 2002, is still affiliated with the county fire organization he belonged to when the alleged assault occurred. He now holds the title of "chaplain emeritus" of the group, according to board members... The current president of the group is Windsor Locks Fire Chief Gary Ruggiero. Haber said Ruggiero sent an e-mail to the board of directors Friday criticizing the newspaper for publishing a story last Sunday that exposed Foley's continued use of a police-equipped Crown Victoria with flashing lights, sirens and scanners... abuse took place on a weekend when the boy and his friend accompanied Foley to a home on Cape Cod, which Foley said was owned by his aunt, the brief said.

Townsend mill temporarily shuts down

A national slump in housing starts and the shaky health of the home mortgage industry are key factors in RY Timber's decision Monday to temporarily shut down its mills in Townsend and Livingston. Each mill employs 100 workers, and each has an annual payroll of approximately $2.5 million, said Scott Stern, Montana operations general manager for RY.The mill's major markets for its timber are the Midwest, Chicago and New York, he said.Stern said he expects the mills to reopen Jan. 28.About 45 workers were kept on at the Townsend mill to operate the planer and do maintenance, he said. However, most of the workforce was laid off at the Livingston mill.

Subprime loan crisis sparking action from Olympia

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Tony Brooks blames a mortgage broker for the loss of his home, and wanted state lawmakers to know his story.

Brooks, 48, drove twice to Olympia from Seattle in the span of a week to testify for a crackdown on brokers, even after he was turned away by a Senate committee the first time.

"There are predatory lenders out there ripping off people with subprime loans," Brooks said. "By me going down there, they will see somebody that it happened to."

Mortgage brokers are in the cross-hairs of some of the measures in the Legislature's response to fears that the subprime loan crisis will soon hit the state hard. As the housing market weakens across the country, the hardest hit have been borrowers of subprime loans, typically people who don't meet the credit standards for a conventional loan.

Fabregas: Abebayor one best in the world

Emmanuel is one of the best in the world, without any doubt,' Fabregas declared.

'You can not fault him in any way. He works, he defends, he chases the centre-backs, he goes behind, he can play to feet, he has a good first touch and a good technique.

'He has improved amazingly and for us I don't think we could live without Adebayor right now.'

Adebayor - signed from Monaco during January 2006 - is certainly repaying the faith showed in him by Wenger following the summer sale of talisman Thierry Henry to Barcelona, and on current form he looks set to smash the 30-goal barrier sooner rather than later.

Fabregas is glad to see how quickly his team-mate has become the 'idol of the club'.

'You have to have the capacity to learn, to be patient.
