Number one, we're going to have to make sure that we stop the housing crisis. Number two, we're going to have to reduce taxes on middle-income Americans immediately. Number three, we're going to have to deal with gas prices. We're going to have to finally become energy independent and make the investments in new technology that will allow us to get there. And, finally, R&D, investments in science and technology. That's an area where America can continue to lead the world. It's time for us not just to talk about improving our economy; we're going to have to do the hard work of rebuilding our economy, strengthening it. And I know that there are some people who think, as Senator McCain did, he said, you know, some jobs have left Michigan that are never coming back.

Petras distinguishes between who sets policies and rules America and whose interests are served. He defines the ruling class as "people in key positions in financial, corporate and other business institutions" with rules "established, modified and adjusted" as the composition and "shifts in power" within the ruling class change over time. One example is manufacuring's decline (from outsourcing to low cost countries) as a "multidimensional financial sector" (finance capital) rose in prominence with Wall Street's influence especially dominant. Petras defines "finance capital" to include investment banks, pension funds, hedge funds, saving and loan banks, investment funds and many other "operative managers" of a multi-trillion dollar economy they've all benefitted hugely from. They've been the driving force powering real estate and financial markets speculation, agribusiness, commodity production and manufacturing.

The purpose of farming criminal activities out to "contractors" is to provide the CIA & the Pentagon with "plausible deniability." Titan and other "civilian contractors" in Iraq seemed to have an arrangement with the US government that they cannot be prosecuted under US military, US civilian law, or Iraqi law. See: Civilians ID'd in abuse may face no charges. Of course, these contractors just did the jobs that they were paid to do. Whistleblowers who witnessed these atrocities said that US Military intelligence officers "at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq" were directing these abuses. Chams "landed a $5 million contract in Riyadh for Surebeam with the Saudi Bin Laden Group"? That figures, based on what I have found about the Saudi regime, the Saudi Bin Laden Group, and Iraq. The Saudi regime was very involved in the US invasion of Iraq in March 2003, notwithstanding their public denials.
