However, the cost of the loan has become secondary to the monthly payments for most people. That 'payday loan' stores operate is proof that the cost is of little consideration to many people. Banks have a responsibility to ensure a return to their shareholders. For them to broaden their product range, especially when those products are likely to provide a higher return than traditional products, is understandable. The only way to control high-cost loans, whether that cost is in the form of interest or other charges, is by legislation. Posted 29/01/08 at 11:43 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .
Lawyer: Andy Pettitte will back trainer
The delay of Pettitte's deposition or transcribed interview was the latest switch in the schedule of meetings between witnesses and staff before the Feb. 13 hearing. "Just a mutually agreeable postponement," said Keith Ausbrook, Republican general counsel for the committee. "It give us a little more time to prepare and gives him a little more time to prepare." Also asked to appear at next month's hearing are Clemens, McNamee, former Yankees second baseman Chuck Knoblauch, and former New York Mets clubhouse employee Kirk Radomski. "Mr. Pettitte is cooperating voluntarily with the committee, and we look forward to his testimony on Monday," panel chairman Henry Waxman and ranking Republican Tom Davis said in a joint statement. "We appreciate Mr. Pettitte's willingness to assist the committee." Knoblauch now is scheduled for Friday and would be the first of the five Feb.

Looking through my notes, I'm reminded of a recent conversation with City-County Councillor Mary Moriarty-Adams. She says her door-to-door campaigning is not revealing as many tax complaints as we heard during the summer. She said some of the attitude in her district may be attributed to work that's being done to repair sidewalks or other neighborhood improvements. She suggested that, if people see some tax dollars coming back to their areas, they may be less-inclined to complain about taxes going out. October 12, 2007 -- 8:25 pm Here's something that puts us in a tough spot. It's a rumor -- a rumor -- about Peyton Manning. Police say it's not true. But, phone calls to our newsroom tell us it's spreading fast among Colts fans. So, we had to discuss whether and how to acknowledge it. The story begins with the crash of an SUV, today, on the west side of Indianapolis. Police say three black men were in the vehicle at 465 and 70. The rumor mill turned it into Peyton Manning's SUV.
